Rubén Darío: “Thanatos”

Thanatos

“Halfway down the road of living …”
So said Dante, in a verse implying
that we are also halfway
down the road of dying.

And so you must learn to praise the empress,
the neglected queen named Nothingness,
for it is in her hands
your fate is spun.

And it is she who remembers
to fill your dreams
with the medicine of reversal: oblivion.
