Rainer Maria Rilke: “Solemn Hour”

Solemn Hour

Whoever weeps now somewhere in the world,
weeps for no reason somewhere in the world,
weeps for me.

Whoever laughs now somewhere in the night,
laughs for no reason somewhere in the night,
laughs at me.

Whoever goes now somewhere in the world,
goes for no reason somewhere in the world,
goes toward me.

Whoever dies now somewhere in the world,
dies for no reason somewhere in the world:
beholds me.

Rainer Maria Rilke
