Arthur Rimbaud: “Eternity”

Eternity

It has been recovered.
What? – Eternity.
It is the sun that hovers
Just above the sea.

O my guardian soul,
Come attest my desire
In these nights full of holes
And these days full of fire.

You’ve surpassed common urges
And customs men live by.
Your path here diverges:
You must take to the sky.

There’s a fire in you alone
Made of soft, satin embers,
Your conscience groans
But no one else remembers.

There’s no covenant of hope,
Nor shall there be one.
Cling to reason and cope
With the agonies to come …

It has been recovered.
What? – Eternity.
It is the sun that hovers
Just above the sea.
